The Fulani socio-cultural association, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, has expressed concern about the adverse effects that military action would have on the herdsmen in Niger if the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) proceeds with its proposed military action against coup plotters in the nation.

The Association therefore urged ECOWAS to continue exploring dialogue as the best course of action for resolving the political crisis in the Niger Republic because any declaration of military action would have disastrous repercussions throughout the Sahel region and Sub-Saharan Africa, with a particularly negative impact on Fulani herdsmen.

Alhaji Bello Bodejo, the Association’s President, claimed that Fulani herdsmen are peaceful people who won’t want anything to interfere with their pastoral activities in a press conference following the Association’s Annual General Meeting on Monday in Karu, Nasarawa State.

Alhaji Bodejo stated that the Association was also concerned about the rising number of armed bandits who were terrorising Fulani herdsmen and rustling their cattle. As a result, the Association decided to establish Miyetti Allah Vigilantee, which would operate nationally and work with other local vigilante groups and security agencies to combat the criminals.
