Presidential Tribunal Reacts Over Sept 6th Date For Judgement

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal has refuted the widely reported trending September 6 date as the day chosen to give decision on the petitions contesting President Bola Tinubu’s election victory.

This is taking place as Nigerians eagerly await the tribunal’s decision in the lawsuits brought against President Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by the Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as well as their presidential candidates Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, respectively, on February 25.

According to reports that surfaced on Monday, the tribunal chose Wednesday, September 6 as the date to issue a decision on the petitions against Tinubu’s victory.

Tribunal Promises Atiku, Obi, Others Of Passionate, Objective Process

Recall that the five-member tribunal presided over by Justice Haruna Simon Tsamani reserved judgement after adopting the final written addresses of the parties involved in the lawsuit and stated that the parties involved and their solicitors will be informed of the verdict’s delivery date.

However, when approached, Barrister Josephine J. Ekperobe, Secretary of the PEPT panel, stated that no definite date has been chosen to deliver the verdict.

“No date yet please,” Ekperobe told Newsmen.

However, according to Anaedoonline.ng, the Tribunal must issue its decision on the petition by September 17 at the latest because the constitution only allows the panel a maximum of 180 days to complete its work.
