Google Appoints Alex Okosi As Managing Director For Africa

Technology behemoth Google has announced the appointment of Alex Okosi as the new Managing Director for Google in Africa. Okosi presently serves as the Managing Director for YouTube in EMEA Emerging Markets.

According to a statement made to Newsmen on Tuesday, Okosi will be in charge of Google’s operations in Africa, including programmes to support the development of the continent’s economies and enterprises. He will also be in charge of enhancing access to the Internet and providing resources to enable the next billion users get more out of it.

“Alex is a proven leader with a wealth of experience in the media and technology industries. He has a deep understanding of African countries and a passion for using technology to empower people and businesses,” said Meir Brand, Vice President, EMEA Emerging Markets at Google.

Okosi is an accomplished leader in media, entertainment, and technology. He was the Executive Vice President and Managing Director of BET International and Viacom International Media Networks Africa before he joined YouTube.

Okosi played a critical role in directing the growth and expansion of the platform across Africa, the Middle East, and Turkey in his most recent job at YouTube.

“I am excited at the prospect of leading Google’s team in Africa and the opportunity to be an even closer part of this diverse and dynamic region, which is so close to my heart,” said Okosi. “I’m a firm believer in the potential for technology and, in particular, the internet to improve people’s lives and to help individuals and businesses in Africa to thrive.”

With offices in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa, Google has been doing business in Africa for more than ten years. Millions of Africans use the company’s goods and services on a daily basis.
