Tuesday morning, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu left Abuja for the G-20 summit in New Delhi.

The Nigerian president is anticipated to talk at the G20 Summit about Nigeria’s perspective on the subject “One Earth-One Family-One Future,” which emphasises the need for international cooperation to overcome the problems facing humanity and the environment.

A substantial economic power bloc of socioeconomic opportunity and geopolitical stability, the G-20 contributes collectively up to 80% of the world’s GDP, 75% of international trade, and 60% of the world’s population.

Although it is ideal for Nigeria to be a member of the G-20, the government has started a wide-ranging consultation process to determine the advantages and hazards of membership.

This is in line with the President’s intention to democratically democratise foreign policy and articulate policy development and implementation through a Whole-of-Society and Whole-of-Government approach that advances the country’s long-term strategic goals.

The government will determine whether or not to submit an application to join after discussions are finished, as necessary. President Tinubu’s attendance at the G-20 Summit in India will help to achieve this goal in part.

The following members of President Tinubu’s cabinet are travelling with him: Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment; Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy; Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy.

President Tinubu will return to Nigeria immediately after the conclusion of the Summit.
