On Wednesday, the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal rejected the accusations of forgery and conviction made against President Bola Tinubu by the Peoples Democratic Party and Atiku Abubakar, the party’s nominee for president in 2023.

In a decision read by Justice Moses Ugo, the court concluded that even while the petitioners alleged that Tinubu did not meet the constitutional need to have run for office, they did not specify what that criterion was. The court was ruling on a request brought by the respondents.

The petitioners accused the Kogi State Governor and one Friday Adejo, who is reportedly a local government chairman in Kogi State, of voting irregularities but did not include them as parties in the lawsuit. The judge wiped out parts of those paragraphs.

Additionally, Justice Ugo rejected the PDP and Atiku’s suit alleging that President Bola Tinubu is a dual citizen and has a drug conviction against him.

The judge ruled that the grounds for Tinubu’s non-eligibility to run in the February 25 presidential election were fresh concerns when addressing the case.

He backed the APC and Tinubu’s arguments that Atiku and the PDP could not smuggle in new matters that were not stated in their petition on the basis of ineligibility.
