On Thursday, workers for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority revealed that they had saved a motor boy who had become trapped beneath a 40-foot container that had been involved in an accident in Lagos State. However, the driver passed away immediately.

According to a statement from the organization’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, the accident occurred at Wharf Road, across from Area B Police Command in the Lagos neighborhood of Apapa.

A 40-foot container that was completely laden and a stationary tipper vehicle that had no registration number were both involved in the fatal accident, according to LASTMA officer Egbetola Sulaiman, who also headed the rescue squad.

“Egbetola confirmed further that preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the 40ft loaded container while on top speed lost control and rammed into another stationed tipper truck with a tyre problem.
“LASTMA officials and other emergency responders were able to rescue a trapped motor boy while the driver of the loaded 40ft container died instantly,” the statement read.

While the body of the dead driver was at the Area B Police Command, the rescued motor boy was immediately rushed to the nearby General Hospital at Apapa for medical treatment.
“Other emergency responders at the accident scene include the Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigerian Police, and Nigerian Port Authority,” it added.
