Lauretta Onochie, the former chairperson of the Niger Delta Development Commission Board, has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force to arrest Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) candidate in the 2023 presidential election, over allegations of instigating violence in the country.

Onochie accused Obi of attempting to incite violence through his supporters, known as “Obidients,” following his defeat in the election. She made this call in response to a video posted by Abubakar Sidiq Usman, in which Obi urged Nigerian youths to challenge the country’s leaders on issues of bad governance.

In the video, Obi encouraged the youth to take action instead of relying solely on prayers, citing an example from the Philippines where a leader was removed from office through mass protests.

Onochie, reacting to the video, referred to Obi as a “clown” and called for his arrest by the security agencies. She questioned why Obi, who came third in the presidential race, was so desperate to become President and accused him of trying to incite violence to change the government.

It’s worth noting that Obi has been challenging the outcome of the presidential election, where President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). However, his petition was recently dismissed by the Presidential Election Petition Court in Abuja.

Despite the court’s decision, Obi has expressed his intention to appeal the judgment at the Supreme Court.

The call for Obi’s arrest by Onochie has sparked controversy and raised questions about the state of political discourse in Nigeria. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how authorities will respond to these allegations and whether they will take any action against the former presidential candidate.
