For the second time in just two weeks, the South East region of Nigeria finds itself in the grip of total darkness due to a significant operational breakdown at the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC). The power outage affecting states, including Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo has left residents frustrated and concerned.

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) experienced a total system collapse at approximately 12:40 a.m. on September 14, 2023. This unexpected event has led to a widespread loss of electricity supply throughout the network. According to Mr. Emeka Ezeh, the Head of Corporate Communications of EEDC, the company has been severely affected by this outage.

EEDC Announces Grid Collapse As South East Nigerian Is Thrown Into Darkness

As a result of this system collapse, EEDC has been unable to provide electricity services to its customers in several states across the Southeast region. The affected states include Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo. Residents in these areas are grappling with the disruption, which has become an unfortunate recurrence in recent times.

In response to this crisis, EEDC is actively monitoring the situation and waiting for detailed information regarding the collapse and power restoration progress. The company is in contact with the National Control Centre (NCC) in Osogbo to gather crucial information on the status of the power grid and the steps being taken to address the issue.
