NIDCOM Chair Abike Dabiri-Erewa Demands Justice in the Tragic Death of Nigerian Passenger on EgyptAir

The Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has called for justice in the tragic case of Remilekun Meshioye, a 41-year-old Nigerian passenger who passed away on an EgyptAir flight on September 4, 2023. Remilekun was en route to London to continue her studies when the unfortunate incident occurred.

According to reports, Remilekun boarded Egypt Air MS 876 flight to Cairo from Lagos via the Murtala Muhammad International Airport. During the flight, she fell ill and, sadly, was pronounced dead upon arrival at Cairo International Airport.

The family of the deceased was not informed by the airline about her passing. Instead, they received a message from the Nigeria consular office in Cairo, notifying them of her death onboard the flight.

Chairman Abike Dabiri-Erewa personally signed a letter delivered to the General Manager of EgyptAir’s Abuja office, Majdi Al Aridi. In the letter, she expressed her deep sorrow over the sudden death of Remilekun and conveyed the family’s distress.

The case was brought to NIDCOM’s attention through a petition sent by Remilekun’s elder sister, Mrs. Olufunmilola Olaniyi-Alabi, who is based in the UK. The family has been seeking answers and justice for the tragic loss of their loved one.

Dabiri-Erewa stated that since Remilekun’s passing on the EgyptAir flight from Lagos to Cairo, the airline’s management has not contacted any family member or next of kin listed in her particulars before boarding the aircraft.

The commission demanded full transparency regarding the events leading to Remilekun’s sudden death and assured the grieving family that justice would be served in her memory. Despite the family’s grief and unanswered questions, they are determined to seek the truth and closure in this tragic incident.
