The election of Governor Caleb Mutfwang has been validated by the Plateau State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which is based in Jos, the state capital.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) proclaimed Mutfwang, who ran for office as a candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the winner.

Nentawe Yilwatda of the All Progressive Congress (APC) went to the tribunal after the results were announced in order to contest them and request to be declared the winner.

Additionally, the petitioner requested that the court count the ballots from the 14 polling places that INEC disqualified.

The tribunal presided over by Justice R. Irele-Ifineh issued its ruling on Friday, dismissing the case filed by the APC and its governorship candidate.

The judge ruled that the petitioners lacked the jurisdiction to contest the pre-election questions brought by the petitioner regarding party organisation.

The tribunal determined that PDP did, in fact, have a legitimate congress on September 25, 2021, in accordance with the ruling made by Justice S.P. Gang of the Jos High Court.

Additionally, the tribunal determined that the nomination and sponsorship of a candidate are pre-election matters.
