UPDATE: Lagos Guber Tribunal Fixes Date To Deliver Judgement

The petitions challenging the announcement of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the winner of the gubernatorial election will be decided on by the Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on Monday, September 25.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the court would begin hearing cases on Monday at 9 a.m.

The tribunal will rule on the petitions brought by Gbadebo Rhodes-Viviour of the Labour Party (LP) and Abdulazeez Olajide Adeniran of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour revealed in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Saturday that he has been told the decision in the election petition before the tribunal would be handed down on Monday.

He posted, “We have just been informed that judgement on our election petition at the tribunal will be delivered on Monday, the 25th of September.”

Recall that on April 11, Jandor and the Labour Party candidate each petitioned the tribunal to declare them the winners and void Sanwo-Olu’s reelection.

The tribunal then dismissed the complaints made by the Allied Peoples’ Movement and the Action Peoples Party on May 24 in opposition to Sanwo-Olu and his running mate, Obafemi Hamzat, winning the March 18 governorship election.

Rhodes-Vivour, who received 312,329 votes, was Sanwo-Olu’s closest competitor. Sanwo-Olu received 762,134 votes.

Adediran, the PDP candidate, received 62,449 votes, while Funmilayo Kupoluyi, the APM candidate, received 884 votes and Abiola Adeyemi, the APP candidate, received 259 votes.

After the petitioners withdrew them, Justice Arum Ashom, the three-person tribunal’s chairman, dismissed the APM and APP’s applications.
