Nigerian Military Thwarts Oil Theft Of N388M in Niger Delta Region

The Nigerian military high command has revealed that troops deployed in the Niger Delta region successfully prevented the theft of crude oil worth a staggering N388,469,650.00. Additionally, they arrested 22 individuals suspected of engaging in illegal oil activities, shedding light on the ongoing efforts to curb oil theft in the country.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Buba Edward shared these developments during a press briefing held in Abuja on Thursday, September 28. He provided insights into the military’s activities over the past week, emphasizing the progress made in safeguarding Nigeria’s valuable oil resources.

Thwarting Oil Theft

According to Maj. Gen. Edward, the troops operating in the Niger Delta region made significant discoveries and accomplishments. They identified and destroyed 38 dugout pits, 21 boats, 57 storage tanks, three tapping hoses, four drum receivers, 89 cooking ovens, six pumping machines, three outboard engines, and 34 illegal refining sites. In addition to these operations, the troops successfully recovered 696,250 liters of stolen crude oil, 54,400 liters of illegally refined AGO (Automotive Gas Oil), and 1,200 liters of PMS (Premium Motor Spirit).

These actions demonstrate the military’s commitment to tackling illegal oil activities that not only deplete national resources but also pose environmental and security risks in the Niger Delta region.

Government’s Support for the Military

In another development, the Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed its unwavering support for the military in carrying out its constitutional duties. Vice President Kashim Shettima, speaking at the convention of the cadets of the 70th Regular Course at the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna State, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the nation’s defense and security.

Represented by the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abubakar, Shettima emphasized the critical role played by the NDA in Nigeria’s defense and security architecture. He encouraged the graduates to continue fulfilling their constitutional duty of defending the country’s territorial integrity.

Furthermore, Shettima highlighted the importance of using the knowledge acquired at the academy to support the government in realizing its “Renewed Hope Agenda” for the Nigerian people. This agenda seeks to address various challenges and improve the lives of citizens across the nation.
