Imo State’s Labour Party (LP) supporters have asked that the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) be replaced.

At the entrance of the state office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the supporters, who are demonstrators, hoisted banners and posters while singing songs.

Before the state’s governorship elections on November 11, the party has the right, in the opinion of the nonviolent demonstrators, to demand a credible, free, and fair election.

Callistus Ihejiagwa, the chairman of the state Labour Party, told reporters that the party wants INEC to use the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machine to make sure that its members’ votes are counted.

Emmanuel Opara, the head of INEC’s voter education and publicity department, responded by promising that the organisation would rebuff any attempts to compromise in order to guarantee a free, fair, and credible election.
