Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut Becomes WAEC Nigeria’s New Head

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has appointed Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut as the new Head of the Nigeria National Office, succeeding Patrick Areghan, whose tenure concluded this month. This appointment marks a significant milestone in the career of Dr. Dangut, who brings a wealth of experience and dedication to the role.

Dr. Dangut’s journey within WAEC is a testament to his dedication and commitment to education and examination processes. He joined the service of WAEC in 1998 as an Assistant Registrar II and steadily climbed the ranks, ultimately becoming a Deputy Registrar in April 2018.

One of the highlights of Dr. Dangut’s career was his commendable role in ensuring the transparent conduct of examinations between 2000 and 2006, earning him recognition from the Nigeria Examinations Committee.

His diverse roles within WAEC reflect his versatility and adaptability. From serving as an Assistant Registrar and Subject Officer in the Test Development Division in Lagos to holding positions as Senior Assistant Registrar/Head of Examinations Security and Deputy to the Branch Controller in various locations, Dr. Dangut’s experience spans different aspects of examination administration.

Born on October 2, 1967, in the Mbar District of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State, Dr. Dangut’s educational journey took him to Government Secondary School, Riyom, and Government Science School, Kuru, both in Plateau State. He obtained his WASC/SC in 1986 and continued his education at the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State, where he earned a Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Production in 1991.

Dr. Dangut’s commitment to innovation and progress is evident through his extensive use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to enhance processes in Test Development, Test Administration, and Post-Test Activities over the past 25 years. His scholarly pursuits have led to various educational publications in international and national journals, as well as numerous keynotes and papers presented at international and national conferences.
