Don’t Expect Stable Grid After Vandalization – TCN To Nigerians

After its installations were vandalised, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) warned Nigerians not to count on a stable national grid.

The transmission corporation posted on its X account that Nigerians shouldn’t expect a steady electrical system because of the alarming rate at which its installations are being vandalised in the nation.

The TCN criticised the general public for enabling vandals to continue their crime of pillaging its facilities and warned them not to anticipate grid stability and growth as a result.

TCN said: “The rate of vandalism of TCN’s installations nationwide is becoming alarming. We cannot eat our cake and still have it. We cannot continue to vandalise power infrastructure or look the other way when such activities are ongoing and expect grid stability and expansion.”

However, it should be recalled that in September it was said that between January 2022 and September 2023, vandals demolished 108 electricity transmission towers in total.

Additionally, vandals demolished nine TCN transmission towers in Ogun State in May.

The occurrences were reported in the regions of Benin, Abuja, Lagos, Enugu, and Kano during the review period.

It is clear that the occurrences go beyond theft and accidents to sabotage because among the attacks on the TCN towers were those that were attributed to the Boko Haram terrorists two years ago in Borno state.
