According to Anaedoonline.ng, lawyer Olukoyede held the position of anti-graft agency secretary for two years while Ibrahim Magu was serving as the commission’s acting chair.

In 2020, Koyede and Magu were suspended by the then-president Muhammadu Buhari, who was never called back.

“President Tinubu has chosen Olanipekun Olukoyede for appointment as substantive chairman of the EFCC,” a top presidency source familiar with the development but not permitted to discuss it before the official announcement told Premium Times.

According to another source, Olukoyede’s appointment, which needs Senate approval, will be made public “very soon.”

Olukoyede, a native of Ekiti State in southwest Nigeria, was born on October 14, 1969, in Ikere-Ekiti. Therefore, on October 14 he will turn 54.

In 2018, Mr. Olukoyede was proposed by former president Muhammadu Buhari to serve as the EFCC’s secretary.

His appointment was subsequently ratified by the Nigerian Senate in November 2018 to succeed Emmanuel Aremo, whose five-year term ended in July 2018.

However, there was some controversy surrounding Olukoyede’s appointment as an EFCC scribe. Senator Isa Misau claimed that Chukwuka Utazi, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes, had ignored some senators when drafting the committee’s report, which had cleared Olukoyede for the position.
