Insecurity in Southeast: DSS Links Turmoil to Criminality Amid Biafra Agitation

The Department of State Services (DSS) has made a connection between the unrest and the Biafra agitation In the ongoing battle against insecurity in Nigeria’s Southeast. Imo State’s DSS Director, Wilcox Idaminabo, highlighted this link during a stakeholders’ roundtable discussion concerning the November 11 governorship election in Imo State.

According to Idaminabo, the turmoil, marked by violence, destruction, and loss of life, is essentially rooted in criminal activities, rather than purely Biafra-related protests. He emphasized the importance of influential figures like traditional rulers, clergymen, and Igbo leaders speaking out against the ongoing security challenges in the region.

ESN: Nnamdi Kanu Promise To Rid Southeast Of Criminality

Idaminabo clarified, “What is going on in the Southeast is criminality wrapped around the ideology of Biafra. Biafra is not about killing or destruction. There is no Biafra anywhere.” He shared the grim reality witnessed during operations in Orsu, where they encountered disturbing scenes of headless bodies and abandoned vehicles.

Furthermore, Idaminabo questioned the recurring threats of boycotting elections in the region, suggesting that these threats may be fueled by political interests. The Southeast has experienced a surge in insecurity in recent years, often linked to the detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and the Biafra movement. This instability has resulted in tragic incidents of violence, including kidnappings and killings in the region.
