Nigeria’s Interior Minister Encourages Academic Excellence for Paramilitary Personnel

Addressing officers and personnel of paramilitary agencies, including the NSCDC, under his ministry’s purview, Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, stressed the significance of academic growth in career advancement. He emphasized that promotions would now consider more than just passing promotion exams and encouraged these individuals to participate in ongoing professional development initiatives, aligning with the federal government’s career progression policy.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo introduced a new initiative called the “Paramilitary Brain Trust (PBT)” during a book presentation event in Abuja. The PBT will consist of public officers and professionals tasked with offering technical advice to the government through research and academic endeavors. This move aims to further enhance the knowledge base and expertise within Nigeria’s paramilitary forces.

The minister commended the commitment to education demonstrated by the commandant-general of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi. He highlighted the positive impact of Dr. Audi’s innovative approaches in addressing security challenges, including insecurity and vandalism. Dr. Tunji-Ojo encouraged all personnel to follow this exemplary pursuit of academic excellence.

As a further commitment to advancing knowledge and skills among paramilitary personnel, Dr. Tunji-Ojo pledged to personally ensure that all agencies under his ministry’s supervision have functional libraries to facilitate research and learning.

Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the commandant-general of the NSCDC, played a significant role in this initiative by co-authoring 12 books, five of which were entirely written by him. His dedication to excellence and the improvement of national security structures drove him to initiate these writings over the past five years.
