PDP BoT Demands Resignation Of Anyanwu As National Secretary

The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) has called on Samuel Anyanwu, the party’s National Secretary, to quit.

Anaedoonline.ng remembers that Anyanwu was chosen as the PDP’s governorship candidate in Imo state for the November 11 election.

Following his election as the PDP candidate, several party members demanded that Anyanwu quit as national secretary.

However, the PDP national leadership stated on Friday that Anyanwu remains the party’s national secretary and governorship candidate in Imo.

The party denied that Anyanwu had been removed from the National Working Committee (NWC).

However, in a letter dated October 12 and issued to the acting PDP National Chairman, Iliya Damagun, the BoT stated that Anyanwu’s holding two positions violates the terms of the party’s constitution.

The BoT stated in a letter written by its acting Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, that Anyanwu should have resigned as the party’s scribe after being elected as the governorship candidate.

As a result, the bot requested that the NWC ensure that Anyanwu resigns immediately and focuses on the governorship race, which is less than 30 days away.

The statement reads: “Nonetheless, the BOT, as the conscience of the party, has the constitutional authority to call to order any member of the party acting in a way contrary to the guiding principles of our party and this is one of them.

It is therefore against the background of the above that the Board wishes to put it on record and state categorically that the NWC should do the right thing by ensuring that the Imo state gubernatorial candidate resigns from office immediately and focus on the election which is less than 30 days away.”
