Dino Melaye, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Kogi State, has accused the incumbent state governor, Yahaya Bello, of seeking a third term by proxy.

Melaye claimed in an interview with Channels Television on Monday that while Bello is not physically on the ballot for the November 11 elections, he is seeking to retain power through the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Ahmed Ododo.

Melaye claimed in his contribution that if elected, Ododo would be a figurehead while Bello would remain in command.

“Do not be misled by the fact that Yahaya Bello is not on the ballot. Ododo is physically on the ballot, however it is Yahaya Bello who is seeking a third term via proxy.

“I will not want this debate to be about Yahaya Bello, rather I would like to market my political party and market what we have for Kogi State,” Melaye said.

The former Kogi West Senator, on the other hand, expressed confidence that such a thing would not happen since he is certain of winning the polls with the support of the people of the state.

Melaye stated that he possesses all of the requisite experience to be the next Governor of Kogi State.

“It’s not debatable. I was a member of the House of Reps and I was voted twice as senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Leke Abejide is a member of the House of Reps but I was in the House of Reps 17 years ago.

“And the governorship of Kogi State is not a learning ground. It’s a place you need people who definitely must have managed human and material resources over the years,” the PDP candidate argued.
