Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu has been named Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Independent Corrupt Practises and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Ajuri Ngelale, the Presidential Spokesman, confirmed this in a statement made available to Newsmen on Tuesday.

He stated that the President appointed Aliyu based on the authority granted to him by Section 3(6) of the Corrupt Practises and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.

Ngelale further stated that the appointment is in support of the Renewed Hope mandate to reform critical institutions and reenergize Nigeria’s anti-corruption fight.

The presidential spokesman also stated that Aliyu’s nomination is subject to Senate confirmation.

He stated that the new Chairman of the ICPC has been nominated for confirmation by the Nigerian Senate, after the President’s approval of the outgoing Chairman’s request to begin pre-end of tenure vacation on November 4, 2023, before his tenure expires on February 3, 2024.

He stated that Aliyu has been the Attorney General of Jigawa State since September 2019 and holds Bachelor, Masters, and Doctorate degrees in law. In addition, he was named a Senior Advocate of Nigeria-designate in October 2023.

Ngelale further stated that the President has selected Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu as the Commission’s Secretary.

According to Ngelale, the office of Secretary to the Commission does not require Senate confirmation and hence takes effect immediately.

He described Oparaodu as a lawyer with over 30 years of experience who has excelled in public service as a member of the Rivers State Judicial Service Commission and chairman of the Port Harcourt City Local Government Council’s Caretaker Committee.

The President urges the ICPC’s new management team to always be above board as they carry out their duties without fear or favour in all situations before them.
