APC Chairman in Jigawa State Suspended Over Rape Allegations

The Jigawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended Saleh Idris, the party’s chairman in Roni Local Government Area, following allegations of rape and impregnating his 14-year-old housemaid. The suspension was announced in a statement signed by the state chairman, Aminu Sani Gumel.

Saleh Idris was remanded by a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Dutse, the state capital, after he was arrested by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on October 4, following a complaint by the victim’s brother. The NSCDC’s spokesperson in the state confirmed that the minor, after a laboratory test, was carrying a pregnancy of about four months and two weeks.

The APC’s statement cited the allegations against Saleh Idris as a violation of the party’s constitution and the need for further investigations. As a result, he has been suspended from his position as the chairman of the party in Roni Local Government Area, pending the final report of the investigation. He has also been instructed to hand over party affairs to the local government area’s vice-chairman.
