In light of Israel’s ongoing conflict with Hamas in Palestine, controversial Onitsha-based priest Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, also known by his stage as Odumeje, has provided justifications for why Nigerian pastors shouldn’t pray for Israel.
Recall that on October 7, the terrorist organisation Hamas, which presently controls the Palestinian territory’s Gaza Strip, invaded Israel and launched an unparalleled attack that claimed the lives of over 150 Israelis.
Since the start of the most recent fight, there have apparently been more than 4,000 fatalities on both sides.
In a now-viral video in which he was speaking to his congregation, Odumeje vowed to render “deaf and dumb” any Nigerian pastor who continued to solicit prayers for Israel.
But he urged religious leaders to concentrate their prayers on Nigeria’s problems.
He said, “Your own country Nigeria, you have not prayed for your president who does not know left and right.
“Any pastor I hear say pray for Israel… If you pray pim for any Israel, I will make you deaf and dumb. Pastor agbero.”
Odumeje’s warning came a short time after Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeem Christian Church of God (RCCG), withdrew a prayer post to Israel during its conflict with Hamas in Palestine in response to criticism from online users.
