Bayelsa Governorship Race: PDP Advises Sylva to Step Down

In the heart of Bayelsa State, a political storm is brewing as the Peoples Democratic Party’s Governorship Campaign Council offers advice to the All Progressives Congress candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva, ahead of the November 11 governorship election.

Mitema Obordor, the Director-General of the campaign council and a House of Representatives member for the Ogbia Federal Constituency, delivered this counsel during a rally at Agbere community, part of Governor Douye Diri’s re-election campaign. The call for Chief Sylva to withdraw from the race is not merely a political maneuver; it’s rooted in the belief that he lacks the necessary support and acceptance across the state.

Obordor began by emphasizing the importance of honesty in governance. He highlighted Sylva’s apparent inconsistency, referring to a prior statement where the APC candidate had publicly announced his retirement from the gubernatorial race. This change of heart, according to Obordor, raises questions about Sylva’s credibility.

“Let me begin my remarks with a call on Timipre Sylva to toe the path of honor and step down from this election,” Obordor stated. “There are reasons I say this. The first is that for you to govern a state, you must be seen to be an honest person. You cannot say a thing today and turn 180 degrees tomorrow to do a different thing. The same man spoke publicly that the chapter of contesting for governorship was over in his life. So that man is dishonest as far as I am concerned.”
