Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali Receives 10-Month Ban for Betting

Italian international midfielder Sandro Tonali, who currently plays for Newcastle United, has been hit with a 10-month ban for his involvement in betting activities, according to the Italian Football Federation.

The 23-year-old footballer was discovered to have placed bets on matches involving his former club AC Milan before making a transfer to Newcastle in a high-profile 56-million-pound move in July. This transfer established him as the most expensive Italian player in history.

As a result of this ban, Tonali will be sidelined for the remainder of the current Premier League season and could also miss next summer’s European Championship if Italy, the defending champions, qualify.

This incident is the latest in a series of betting-related scandals in football, and it underscores the seriousness with which authorities are addressing such issues. Notably, Tonali is the second Italian player to receive a ban for betting, following Juventus’ Nicolo Fagioli, who was handed a seven-month suspension earlier this month.
