Tinubu’s Reforms Has Produced Pain For Nigerians – Mohammed Idris

On Friday, Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, admitted that President Bola Tinubu’s policies have caused suffering.

Idris asserted, however, that the reforms were carried out for the good of all and that they provide Nigerians with the essential basis for prosperity and economic growth.

The preacher assured them that the suffering they were in would pass quickly.

He pointed out that the Petroleum Industry Act of 2021’s elimination of the petrol subsidy would free up large sums of money for state and federal governments to spend on public works projects and citizen welfare initiatives.

The minister stated that the goal of harmonising the foreign exchange regulations was to plug gaps that had been taken advantage of over time, resulting in the loss of billions of dollars.

Idris in an interview with Punch said, “The combined impact of these reforms, no doubt, has produced pain for many of our citizens, which the President and the administration have never shied away from acknowledging. No serious government seeks to inflict burdens on its people.

“We are very clear in explaining that these pains being felt are a short-term sacrifice to make for the kind of country that we want and that we deserve.”

He listed some of the recent short- and medium-term initiatives, such as the N35,000 monthly provisional wage increase for a period of six months, the creation of an Infrastructure Support Fund to allow states to invest in vital areas that would foster business growth, the introduction of a N100 billion CNG bus rollout programme to provide buses powered by CNG, and the formation of a presidential committee to oversee implementation.
