The renowned Ozoka dynasty of Nnewi, Anambra State invites the community and beyond to commemorate the life of Dame Dr. Uju Uchendu Ozoka. A woman of exceptional accomplishments and unwavering determination, she left an indelible mark on Nnewi and beyond.

Dame Dr. Uju Uchendu Ozoka was born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to the family of Chief Isaac and Mrs. Agnes Uchendu of Umudim, Nnewi, in 1961. The Nigeria-Biafra civil war brought her family back to Nnewi, where she commenced her academic journey at St. Stephen’s Primary School, Umudim. Her brilliance led her to Girls’ Secondary School Nnewi, where she not only excelled academically but also served as the school’s social prefect.

Upon completing her secondary education, she continued to pursue knowledge. Dr. Uju Ozoka attended the University of Port Harcourt for Basic Science and later the University of Benin for her degree in Medical Science. She ventured into journalism but realized she needed more to make a significant impact. This determination led her to change her career path to law. She earned a doctorate degree in International Relations from American University, further demonstrating her diverse academic interests.

Dr. Uju Ozoka’s career journey was nothing short of remarkable. She ventured from medical practice to journalism, authorship, law, business ownership, and public service. She was the publisher of Nigerian Gong Newspaper and wrote several books addressing vital issues. She managed businesses such as Annon Pharmacy and Stores Ltd, the Royal Habitat hotel chain, and Neptune Water, leaving a lasting legacy.

In addition to her multifaceted career, Dr. Uju Ozoka engaged in humanitarian efforts. She was a member of organizations like Save our Soul, Red Cross Society, and Nigerian Child Welfare, providing assistance to the underprivileged. Her contributions extended beyond Nigeria’s borders, including her representation of Nigeria at international women’s conferences.

In Nnewi, Dr. Uju Ozoka earned the title “Ogbo-ogu” Nnewi, denoting her role as a Peacemaker of Nnewi. She promoted peace in the community and left an enduring legacy.

Dame Dr. Uju Uchendu Ozoka’s demise at the age of 62 leaves a void not only in Nnewi but in Nigeria. Her inspiring life illustrates the power of following one’s dreams against all odds.

On thursday, the 2nd of November 2023, at 5pm, Service of Songs will be held at St. James Anglican Church, Asokoro Abuja.

Thursday, 9th November 2023 at 7am – Body leaves Akwudo Mortuary to her father’s compound for a brief stopover, then to Ozoka’s compound for lying in state.

10 AM – Burial service. Interment follows after the service.

Reception follows immediately after internment at Ozoka mansion, beside St. Felix Catholic Church, Egbu, Umuenem, Otolo, Nnewi.

Sunday, 12th November 2023: 9 AM – Outing Service at St. Paul’s Anglican church, Umuenem, Otolo, Nnewi.
