The passing of Professor Ben Nwabueze (SAN), the former minister of education, has been acknowledged with grief by President Bola Tinubu.

Nwabueze passed away at the age of 91 on Sunday night in his home, as Anaedoonline.ng had previously reported.

President Tinubu describes the passing of the preeminent constitutional lawyer as a great loss to the country in a statement released by his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale.

According to the Nigerian president, Professor Nwabueze made a significant contribution to the nation’s constitutional precedents and guiding principles and had exceptional legal knowledge.

Nonetheless, Tinubu expressed his condolences to the Nwabueze family, the Anambra State government, and its citizens on the elder statesman’s loss.

The statement reads: “President Bola Tinubu condoles with the Nwabueze family, and the government and people of Anambra State, on the passing of renowned constitutional lawyer and former minister of education, Professor Ben Nwabueze, SAN, CON, NNOM.

“President Tinubu describes the death of the foremost constitutional lawyer as a profound loss, saying Professor Nwabueze’s knowledge of law was outstanding.

“Prof. B.O. Nwabueze’s contribution to the precedents and principles of the nation’s constitution is notable. His involvement in the drafting of the 1979 constitution is a legacy that stands him out as well as his outstanding contributions to the legal profession at large.

“The President asks his family, the good people of Anambra State, and Nigerians in general to take solace in the worthy legacy that the deceased left behind.

“The President prays that God Almighty grant the gentle soul of Prof Nwabueze eternal rest.”
