A crucial meeting between representatives of organized labour and the federal government has been rescheduled for today. This meeting aims to discuss palliative measures in response to the removal of fuel subsidies and evaluate the implementation of a 15-point Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by both parties in October 2023.
Originally scheduled for Monday, the rescheduled meeting’s reason remains undisclosed. However, it comes in the wake of a threat by organized labour to boycott any meeting attended by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong. The labour center accused the minister of breaching item 6 of the MoU and ratified agreements by taking sides in addressing the leadership crisis within the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
Minister Simon Lalong has vehemently denied the allegations, describing them as unfounded. This development underscores the importance of resolving the issues surrounding the fuel subsidy removal and ensuring that agreements are honored to maintain a peaceful and productive industrial atmosphere in Nigeria.
