The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate, Natasha Akpoti-Uduagan, has been declared the legitimate victor of the Kogi Central Senatorial Election by the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal.

In a decision on Tuesday, the Appellate Court upheld the Tribunal’s finding that Akpoti had won the election in February 2023.

The court rejected the appeal Abubakar Ohere of the All Progressives Congress (APC) filed, ruling that Akpoti was the winner due to its lack of merit.

However, the APC candidate contested the tribunal’s decision, and the higher court upheld Akpoti-Uduagan as the winner of the election.

Remember that in September of last year, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan was proclaimed the victor of the Kogi East Senatorial election, which took place on February 25, 2023, by the electoral petition tribunal seated in Lokoja.

In his decision on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, tribunal chairman Justice K.A. Orjiakoin stated that Uduaghan received 54,064 votes, more than his nearest competitor, Abubakar Sadiku Ohere of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received 51,291 votes.

According to Justice Orjiakoin, Natasha’s results were purposefully withheld from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in three polling units within the same Local Government Area (LGA), while Ohere’s results were manipulated in nine polling units within the Ajaokuta LGA.
