Court Halts Fubara’s Impeachment, Orders Assembly, CJ To Maintain Status Quo

An interim injunction prohibiting the Rivers State House of Assembly and Speaker Martins Amaewhule from taking any further action on the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been issued by a Rivers State High Court located in the Isiokpo Division of the Ikwerre Local Government Area.

The Chief Judge of the State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi, the Deputy Speaker, and the Clerk of the House are also in a constrained state.

The governor filed a lawsuit, and Justice Ben Whyte, the presiding judge, issued the order in response.

In the interim, while the Motion on Notice is being considered, Justice Whyte ordered the parties to keep things as they are.

The lawsuit was postponed by the judge until November 14, 2023, so that the motion may be heard on notice.
