Pay TV company MultiChoice Nigeria has announced an increase in the DStv and GOtv bundle pricing for the third time in 2023, citing persistent economic difficulties.

Naija News was informed of the situation by MultiChoice sources who begged to remain anonymous.

According to the source, the increased bouquet price will go into effect on November 6.

With the most recent hike of 17%, GOtv subscribers will now pay N12,500 for the Supa+ package, the highest subscription price, instead of the original N10,500. Additionally, DStv subscribers will now pay N29,500 instead of the N24,500 that was previously charged to premium subscribers.

The most recent rise occurs as Nigerians struggle with the knock-on effects of the elimination of fuel subsidies and the declining value of the country’s currency at the FX market.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, President Bola Tinubu promptly eliminated fuel subsidies upon taking office. This action resulted in a notable increase in the pump price of fuel, which is currently sold for over N600 per litre, up from roughly N189 per litre.

The escalation in fuel costs has had a negative impact on mobility, which has subsequently impacted commodity prices nationwide, making basic necessities unaffordable for Nigerians. Following the government led by President Bola Tinubu’s decision to float the nation’s currency, which further depreciated it on the foreign exchange market, commodity prices increased.

MultiChoice had previously raised the bouquet pricing for DStv and GOtv. If you remember, the pay TV company raised the price of its membership bundle by 17% in May after raising the costs of the bouquets earlier in the year.
