IPOB Warns INEC Against Manipulating Imo State Election

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a stern warning to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), cautioning against any attempts to subvert the will of the people in the upcoming Imo State gubernatorial election scheduled for November 11, 2023. The warning, conveyed by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, emphasizes the group’s concerns about alleged attempts to manipulate the electoral process in favor of the ruling political party.

IPOB has expressed deep concern over the perceived influence of certain individuals who have been reportedly drafted into INEC, suggesting that their role may be to manipulate the electoral process to favor a particular political party. According to IPOB, a total of eighteen individuals have been identified as having been drafted into INEC.

Guarding Against Political Crisis

While IPOB has traditionally refrained from participating in what it terms the “fraudulent political selection” known as elections in Nigeria, the group has voiced its concerns about the potential for electoral malpractice in Imo State. The warning underscores IPOB’s determination to ensure that the people’s voices are heard and that the electoral process remains free and fair.

IPOB has cited the history of alleged fraudulent activities during elections in Nigeria, emphasizing that INEC, while intended to be independent, has often been influenced by the government in power or moneyed politicians. The group emphasizes that should any INEC official choose to subvert the wishes of Imo State citizens, they must be prepared to face the consequences.

The warning extends to INEC officials who have been identified as potential contributors to election result manipulation. IPOB has urged these officials to remain neutral and professional, emphasizing the importance of conducting their duties with integrity. The group has also called on any officials who may be unwilling to uphold the principles of free and fair elections to step aside.
