Navy Confirms Delivery Of N5 Billion Presidential Yacht, Faces Payment Crisis

The N5 billion presidential yacht that was included in the 2023 supplemental budget that was presented to the National Assembly was confirmed to be delivered by the Nigerian Navy on Friday.

Given the nation’s current economic circumstances, many Nigerians had thought that the acquisition would be stopped due to widespread criticism; nonetheless, a recent discovery that the item had been given to the nation added a new wrinkle to the story.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, Commodore Adedotun Ayo-Vaughan, the Nigerian Navy’s Director of Information, said in a Friday interview with PUNCH that the yacht had been in the nation since June 2023.

According to Ayo-Vaughan, the service under former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration insisted that the presidential boat be replaced for training purposes.

The naval spokesperson said, “It was delivered in June 2023. We have not used it yet.”

He added that the inability to pay for the yacht was responsible for the delay in using it, “Correct. It’s tied to the non-payment.”

However, given the National Assembly’s objection and refusal to ratify its payment, there are signs that the boat payment may be delayed.
