For Nigerians, poverty is not a source of shame, according to President Bola Tinubu, who also emphasised that it is simply unacceptable.

This was said by the president on Friday at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja’s closing ceremony of a three-day retreat for ministers, presidential aides, and other cabinet members.

President Tinubu assigned his cabinet members and other senior civil service executives the mission of cooperating, transforming Nigeria’s image, and fostering the nation’s economic growth.

It is up to everyone, including himself, to figure out how to get off the poverty ship, he said, adding that Nigerians should figure out a way to dig themselves out of it.

The President also obtained a promise from them that they would work for Nigerians and work as a team to achieve for the country.

He said: “Since we are one family and one nation, and we are in this vehicle together, to change the narrative and bring about the economic prosperity of our country, are we ready?

“Poverty is not a shameful thing, but it’s not just acceptable. If you check your history, there’s a trace of poverty in it, but we should find a way to dig ourselves out of it.

“So, it is left for you and me to navigate this ship out of poverty. We have a lot of work ahead of us.”
