INEC Prepares for Governorship Elections in Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi States

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is gearing up for the upcoming off-cycle governorship elections in Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi States, scheduled for Saturday, November 11. INEC has released essential information, including the number of polling units, registered voters, and details about polling agents. Additionally, the Commission has identified 40 polling units where elections will not take place due to a lack of registered voters.

Details of the Governorship Elections:
  1. Polling Units without Registered Voters: INEC Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, revealed that two polling units in Bayelsa and 38 in Imo have no registered voters. As a result, no elections will be conducted in these locations.
  2. Candidate Sponsors: In Bayelsa, 16 political parties are sponsoring candidates for the governorship election, while 18 parties are sponsoring candidates in both Imo and Kogi States.
  3. Polling Unit Count: Elections are expected to be held in 10,470 polling units across the three states (excluding the 40 polling units without registered voters).
  4. Nomination of Polling Agents: Each political party is required to nominate polling agents for all polling units, 649 wards, 56 local government areas (LGAs), and three state collation centers.
Publication on Registered Voters:

INEC has also published information on registered voters, Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) collected by local government areas (LGAs), and the distribution of registered voters by gender, age group, occupation, and disability. This publication offers valuable insights into the voter demographics in preparation for the elections.
