UPDATE: Tinubu Govt Compiles New Ambassadors’ List

Following the recall of all Nigerian ambassadors, both career and non-career, the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government has begun preparing a list of replacement ambassadors.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the recalled ambassadors have been requested to return to the country by October 31, 2023.

The recall was apparently notified to the various envoys by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar.

According to reports, some ambassadors had returned, but the majority of those who remained had formally given over to their most senior staff while finalising travel preparations to return home as requested.

An envoy, speaking anonymously, stated that all ambassadors could not return on or before the Federal Government’s deadline, emphasising that they were not breaking the regulations.

He stated, “Each mission (embassy/high commission) has its peculiar condition. It is, therefore, not possible for all ambassadors to meet the deadline.

“This is not to say that those who could not return before the deadline have gone against the presidential directive. There is that understanding, following general recall of ambassadors every four years.

Tinubu Has Recalled All Ambassadors — Minister

“I am one of those that have yet to return, and the reason why I am still here is because of some circumstances that require attention from me for a little more time. I am ready to depart soonest.”

Another ambassador in one of Europe’s countries told Newsmen that his delay was due to unanticipated circumstances, adding, “I am substantially in compliance with the October 31st deadline.”

According to reports, the Presidency has begun accumulating names of new ambassadors who will represent Nigeria in various nations.

According to a senior source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “names of new ambassadors are being compiled.”
