The National Security Advisor, Nuhu Ribadu, received plaudits on Tuesday from the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) for his bravery in acknowledging that previous President Muhammadu Buhari left behind a bankrupt nation.
Speaking at the Chief of Defence Intelligence Annual Conference in 2023, Anaedoonline.ng remembers that Ribadu stated that the nation was facing fiscal limitations because it had inherited a bankrupt nation from the previous administration with approximately N46 trillion in debt to pay off.
In response, HURIWA demanded that Buhari be taken into custody and put on trial by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in a statement released by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko.

The group accused Buhari’s government of human rights violations, corruption, and economic mismanagement.
The statement read in part, “In her remarks during an interdenominational church service marking Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Anniversary, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu emphasized that her husband, President Bola Tinubu, is not a magician but is committed to fixing the country. She stated that the Tinubu administration inherited challenges from past administrations and is focused on repairing the damage without placing blame.
“Also, in a recent speech at the Chief of Defence Intelligence Annual Conference 2023 in Abuja, Ribadu attributed the current financial crisis to the bankruptcy inherited by President Tinubu’s administration. While acknowledging budgetary constraints, Ribadu assured that the government is diligently working to ensure a robust defense management and security structure. He commended the armed forces for their commitment and positive changes under the current leadership.”

The Rights organisation further claimed that the former president approved of terrorist attacks and the murder of civilians, saying that these actions amounted to crimes against humanity that should be brought to the attention of the international criminal court located in The Hague, Netherlands.
HURIWA insisted that the ICC should look into and bring charges against Buhari in light of the NSA’s disclosure and other human rights concerns.
