New NADDC Boss Commends Innoson Vehicles During Factory Visit

In a significant move to foster collaboration and bolster the indigenous automotive industry, the newly appointed Director General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, paid a notable visit to Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing plants in Umudim, Nnewi, Anambra State, on the 14th of November.

Osanipin undertook a comprehensive tour of Innoson’s production facilities, led by the visionary founder and Chairman, Chief Dr. Innocent Ifediaso Chukwuma. The tour covered both the operational vehicle production plant in Uru and the promising new facility under construction at Umuezena.

Expressing his satisfaction, the IT Audit expert lauded Innoson Vehicles for its significant contributions to the Nigerian automotive sector. In particular, he acknowledged the company’s commitment to producing vehicles with over 70% local content, recognizing the positive impact on the nation’s economy.

He said that he is impressed with the remarkable efforts and investments made by Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing in advancing the Nigerian automotive industry. In his words, “From what I have seen today, I’m even positively surprised. I never thought we have this kind of investment and expertise going on in the industry, as seen here in Innoson.”

“Not just one factory, I have visited the factory where the cars, buses and SUVs are manufactured and I have come here also to visit the new factory that is under construction, as you can see, this factory occupies a land expense of 20,000 Sqms and this is not all, another one is going to be built”.

“The percentage of local content in those Innoson airport buses is between 60-70 % and gradually we hope to get to 80% and from there we know we can achieve more”.

Speaking on the future of the Nigerian automotive industry, the DG encouraged citizens to support the ‘made in Nigeria’ initiative by purchasing locally manufactured vehicles. He assured continued support and partnerships for all auto manufacturers in Nigeria, emphasizing the importance of collaboration for industry growth.

“I am here to inspect and look at the capital base of the money being spent here and how we can come in and partner with Innoson to move the sector forward. The future of the Nigerian automotive sector is bright and by the time we all embrace made in Nigeria, the industry will grow.”

In response, Chief Dr. Innocent Ifediaso Chukwuma, the CEO of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company Ltd, expressed gratitude for the timely visit and unwavering support from the NADDC. He revealed that the new factory under construction is dedicated to the production of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles, focusing on mass transit solutions and individual or corporate needs.

The seasoned industrialist remarked “We appreciate the Director General’s recognition of our efforts and commitment to supporting local manufacturers. I’m so happy that our new DG is here today because when someone come out from his position and visit the points, he will have more ideas on what to do. I’m grateful to him for coming”.
