Imo: Police Vow To Deal With Those Peddling Fake News, Incite Violence

The Imo State Police Command has promised to take severe action against individuals who spread false information about the state.

Following the viral video that went viral and claimed that state police officers were killed in a shootout with Nigerian Army soldiers, the command issued the warning via Twitter.

Henry Okoye, the State Police Command spokesman, promised that the police would take decisive action against miscreants who spread untrue information that could worry Imo State citizens.

“Imo Police Command will deal decisively with mischief makers circulating false information capable of causing apprehension amongst the good people of Imo State. Our eyes are on the watch, we’ll certainly arrest and prosecute them in accordance with the law. Be warned!!,” the post reads.

Anaedoonline.ng notes that the Imo command had previously denied the allegations made in a now-viral video that personnel from the Nigerian army had attacked the state’s police.

According to the state command, the alleged event took place in the Ebonyi state’s Abakaliki.

“The Command wishes to put the record straight that there was no record of any incident of attack and killing of Police Officers in Imo State yesterday, 17/11/2023.

“The incident shown in the viral video happened at Nwofe road, outskirts of Abakiliki Town and Ebonyi State Police Command has issued a statement confirming the attack, stating further that an intense manhunt is ongoing to hunt down the hoodlums responsible for the dastardly act,” the earlier statement read.
