The dismissal of Caleb Mutfwang, the governor of Plateau State, has been met with opposition amid rumours that the All Progressives Congress (APC) intends to establish a one-party government in Nigeria.

Anaedoonline.ng is aware that the opposition had three experiences in the last four days, the most recent being the sacking of Mutfwang.

Iliya Damagum, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) acting national chairman, sounded the alarm about a scheme to subvert the will of the people as expressed in the general elections.

UPDATE: Appeal Court Sacks Plateau Governor, Mutfwang, Declares APC Candidate Winner

Damagum claimed during a press conference at the party headquarters that the APC was planning to “cripple democracy, overturn Nigerians’ democratic rights, repress the Rule of Law, and reduce our nation to a fiefdom controlled by the whims of a cabal.”

In the March governorship election, Mutfwang of the PDP received 525,299 votes, while Nentawe Goshwe, the opponent of the APC, received 481,370 votes.

Goshwe contested the outcome at the tribunal, claiming that Mutfwang had not been legitimately nominated and endorsed by his party, in violation of the Electoral Act.

Goshwe proceeded to the appellate court despite the panel dismissing the plea for lack of merit.

Mutfwang was fired by the appeal court led by Justice Elfrieda Williams-Dawodu on Sunday for not having the PDP’s legitimate endorsement for an election.

The Zamfara State PDP governor, Dauda Lawal, was dismissed by the appellate court on Thursday, citing an inconclusive result from the March governorship election.

The election of New Nigeria Peoples Party governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, was declared void by the same court the next day (NNPP).

Nigerians are speculating about the APC’s involvement in these recent court decisions that resulted in the removal of opposition governors.

Here are a few of the Twitter responses:

Shehu Sani, a former senator wrote: “The Court of Appeal Judgement against the electoral victory of the Plateau State Governor is unfortunate, unacceptable and condemnable. A broad daylight heist of the will of the people. The bench is becoming the coffin of democracy.”
