The Abia State Government has refuted reports that N927 million was spent over the course of three months on refreshments, welfare packages, and meals for Governor Alex Otti.

A copy of the report titled “Abia State Third Quarter (July – September) 2023 Budget Performance” was previously made available on the state government website (https://abiastate.gov.ng/abia-state-3rd-quarter-2023-budget-performance-report-2/), according to a report published by Anaedoonline.ng.

According to the report, between July and September of 2023, the Otti-led government spent N305,400,000.00 on government officials’ honoraria and sitting allowance and N223,389,889.84 on refreshments and meals.

Additionally, the Abia government spent N362,804,050.00 on trucks and another N400,890,000.00 on buses.

The government also stated that N25 million was used to fix the state’s public schools and that N252.4 million was utilised to operate the Deputy Governor’s office for three months.

Online users were outraged by the report and attacked Governor Otti.

In a conversation with Daily Post, Special Advisor to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, asserted that the allegation is untrue and promised a thorough explanation of the situation.

He said, “The report is incorrect, there was nothing like that and we will do an official response to that.”
