Contrary to rumours, Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, has identified as a full-blooded Ijaw.

When Fubara received the Kalabari Se Kobiri traditional institution on Friday, he declared as much.

He was formally informed by the traditional institution of Government House, Port Harcourt, of the passing of King Theophilus Princewill, Amanyanabo of the Kalabari Kingdom.

Chief Charles Numbere, Regent of Kalabari Kingdom, and Prince Tonye Princewill, Chairman of the Central Working Committee for the late monarch’s funeral, led the Kalabari Se Kobiri.

The governor said, “Let me say, I am happy that the media is here. There have been speculations everywhere that Fubara is not a complete Ijaw.

“The truth is that Ijaw is not complete without Opobo. You can’t talk about the Ijaw struggle without the Opobo and Kalabari. For the records, I am full-blooded Ijaw, up to my bones.”

No matter whose ox was gored, he said that the late King Amachree was among the leaders who could speak truth to power.

He claimed that his demeanour embodied authentic Ijaw.

As he praised the CWC for its efforts thus far, Fubara urged the leaders of Kalabari to unite in order to guarantee the late monarch’s smooth transition.
