The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has been charged by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council in Kogi of plotting to burn down the INEC headquarters in Lokoja.
The public was asked by the council to hold the SDP responsible for any harm or interference with the state’s voting process.
This accusation was made by council spokesman Kingsley Fanwo in a statement that was made public in Lokoja on Sunday evening.

He claimed that by fabricating a story about “mandate bandits” allegedly planning to blow up the INEC office, the SDP was attempting to hide its true intentions.
Isaiah Ijele, the spokesperson for the MuriSam Campaign Council, had earlier released a statement on behalf of the SDP asserting that it had information from trustworthy sources that some people were planning to burn down the INEC office in Kogi.
To thwart any attempt, the SDP urged the security services to bolster security surrounding the INEC office.
The SDP’s assertion was, nevertheless, rejected by the APC campaign committee as a fabrication and a deceptive ploy.
The Kogi State Governorship Poll was deemed the finest in the state’s democratic history, but the council ruled the SDP lacked evidence to support its claims.

The council added that because the SDP’s performance and platform had failed to win over voters, it was turning to misinformation and assaults on INEC and other parties involved.
The SDP and its candidate were challenged by the council to demonstrate their political credentials and take on the APC, which it said had strong state roots.
