Zamfara Governor Charges Residents To Memorise Qur’an to Combat Insecurity

In an effort to counteract the state’s insecurity, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has urged the populace to memorise and recite the Qur’an.

During the 27th Zamfara Qur’anic Recitation Competition opening ceremony, he made this appeal in his speech.

The governor claimed that encouraging peace and stability in the state was greatly aided by the recital and memorising of the holy book.

He claimed that the teachings and guidance found in the Qur’an were from Allah and might benefit the people in overcoming the difficulties and dangers that the bandits posed.

He declared that his government was endorsing the Qur’anic competition in an effort to generate more Qur’anic reciters and memorization experts who would propagate the word of Islam and promote peace and harmony among the people.

In order to put an end to the state’s instability, he further urged the Muslims residing there to always uphold the Qur’anic teachings and to pray for divine intervention.

Following the bandits’ Friday abduction of 100 men, women, and children from Mutunji hamlet in Maru Local Government Area, the governor made an appeal.

The locals were reportedly asked to pay the criminals N50 million as a protection fee, but they refused.

Following the evening prayers, the bandits, under the command of their infamous commander Damina, rode into the village on motorbikes and kidnapped the inhabitants.

Lawal sent his sympathies to the families of those killed as a result of the state’s insecurity.

He stated that efforts were being made by the state administration to address the issues that certain groups were facing.

The governor went on to say that in order to maintain security in the state, his administration had enlisted members of the Community Protection Guards, a neighbourhood vigilante organisation.

By God’s grace, he urged the state’s citizens to maintain their composure and patience, promising that the security situation will soon improve.

Additionally, he expressed his gratitude to the Qur’anic Recitation Competition organisers, stating that the occasion was a fantastic way to highlight the abilities and promise of the state’s young people.
