Citing a disdain for their request for copies of the judgement, the Labour Party (LP) has expressed concerns about the way the Supreme Court has handled their appeal in the matter pertaining to the presidential election.

The LP’s National Secretary, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, issued a press release on November 28, 2023, alerting the public to the extraordinary circumstances.

On October 25, 2023, the Supreme Court informed LP and its presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, that the ruling will be made on October 26 of the same year. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) case, according to the LP, was closely linked to their appeal, a development they found “extraordinary, terribly shocking, most unprecedented, and unacceptable.”

The LP asserts that the Supreme Court violated the constitutional duty to supply all parties with legally authenticated copies of the judgement within seven days by refusing to provide them copies, despite the fact that the appeals were separate.

“The Supreme Court’s conduct is regrettable and unprecedented, constituting an unmitigated breach of the constitutional right of LP and her candidate to a fair hearing,” the Labour Party said, emphasising the seriousness of the situation.
