Ekiti State’s Ministry of Justice’s Directorate of Citizens Rights (DCR) has filed a complaint against Pastor Jeremiah Adegoke and the Ekiti State Police Command for allegedly violating the rights of Chef Damilola Adeparusi, also known as Chef Dammy, who was born in Ekiti. On behalf of the chef, the DCR is requesting N10 million in damages.

Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) student Chef Dammy rose to notoriety in June when he attempted to break the Guinness World Record at a cook-a-thon. The situation started in October when Chef Dammy expressed concern about supposed harassment and threats from Adegoke, her pastor, and other persons she referred to as “people of God.”

Chef Dammy Arrested by Police Following Petition from Pastor

Adegoke, the senior pastor of Spirit Word Global Mission, a church with a location in Ekiti, is said to have supported Chef Dammy’s culinary feat, which broke records. Adegoke ordered that Chef Dammy delete the claimed defamatory post on social media, apologise in two widely read national dailies, and pay N22 million in damages after Chef Dammy’s public protest.

On November 24, the DCR filed a lawsuit in response, citing Adegoke, Ajewole Samuel, the Commissioner of Police for Ekiti State, and the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 17 Akure, as respondents, and Chef Dammy as the applicant.

The complaint asks for a finding stating that the pastor and the Nigerian police have been harassing and molesting the applicant, threatening to arrest them, and intimidating them, in violation of their fundamental human rights.
