Despite alleged threats and misinformation from some quarters, the Lagos State Government has said that it will not back down from its plan to destroy buildings that obstruct drainage systems.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the state government made this announcement on Thursday via a post via X, sent by Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources.

Remember that the owners of buildings located inside the seven-meter setback on Orchid Road, Agungi, Ajiran, Conservation Road, Osapa, and other roads near the Ikota River were given a seven-day notice of violation by the government.

In order to prevent property destruction, they implored Lagosians to adhere to the state’s Drainage Master Plan.

Wahab argued that the state’s decision to uphold the law and recover drainage setbacks after the notifications expired could not be reversed.

Nonetheless, there have been allegations that the demolition singles out a specific ethnic community in the nation.

In response to the allegation, Wahab restated that the government would not submit to threats or extortion since the legal system will handle everything eventually.
