COP28: After Backlash From Nigerians, Confused FG Breaks Silence On Dubai Climate Junket

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, unexpectedly disclosed that 422 people were funded by the Federal Government to attend the ongoing COP28 Climate Summit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Idris revealed this in a statement on Monday in response to the issue that surrounded 1,411 Nigerian delegates who had registered for the meeting.

On November 29, 2023, President Bola Tinubu departed Abuja in preparation for the summit, which was set to end on December 12, 2023.

Concerns about insensitivity un light of the economic hardships Nigerians are facing as a result of the withdrawal of the petrol subsidy in mid-2023 are at the heart of the dispute.
