The Nigerian Federal Government has responded to the findings of the second Independent Assessment carried out under the Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) programme by awarding a total of N135.4 billion to states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The objective of this endeavour is to tackle multifaceted poverty and offer support to susceptible persons impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This information was made public by NG-CARES’s National Coordinator, Abdulkarim Obaje, via a statement released on Sunday in Abuja by the program’s information and communication officer, Suleiman Odapu.

The main goal of the programme is to help the less fortunate Nigerians deal with the economic and social difficulties they encountered during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.

Under the Project’s Programme for Results framework, states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are reimbursed for their expenses as long as they follow the directives provided in the Financing Agreement, Funds Release Policy, and Independent Verification Agent Protocol.

Obaje explained that the distribution of cash was dependent on how well the states and the Federal Capital Territory performed in their efforts to combat multidimensional poverty in the country and assist vulnerable and disadvantaged persons through the NG-CARES programme.

Obaje conveyed his appreciation to Atiku Bagudu, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, for his unwavering assistance in arranging the countrywide execution of the NG-CARES initiative.

He also congratulated the World Bank, the FCT Minister, and state governors on their joint efforts in providing vital support for the programme.
